Unique Plant

When I am out and about with a camera in my hand, I often look for something strange or unique to take pictures of. Belle Isle Conservatory in Detroit is a place I frequent most. Their green house is full of different plants, flowers, and trees.

What Am I?

I spot this very unusual plant and flower but I could not find the identification tag for it! It was frustrating when people kept walking in front of me as I prepared to shoot.

Beautiful Colors

This is a full bloom flower from this unique plant. Though I have a feeling that this plant is in the banana plant family, but not quite sure! Do you know?

Hanging Down

I love the colors of this flower, and plan to go back to Conservatory some times during the week, when there are less visitors to weave around.

Taking pictures of beautiful things in this world help me appreciate life more! Nature supplies us with many wonderful and fantastic scenery.

  1. I don't know what it is, either. When I saw the first picture I thought it was Bird of Paradise plant, but I've never seen one with thos lovely flowers dangling from it. Whatever it is, I like it.

  6. Hello,
OMG, I got a baby version of this plant at a yard sale and I've been trying to identify it every since.
Then your photo came up in a search.
Did you ever find out what it is? I am still trying because I am afraid I will kill it. Please share any info you have. Thanks
PS, I was pleased to find your site for more than just this picture.

  10. Hello.

I think this plant is a Billbergia nutans H. Wendl. (common-names are Queen's-Tears in England or Bromelia in Brasil)

Quoting the wikipedia: "is an epiphytic bromeliad native from Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. This plant is often used as an ornamental plant, and it is probably one of the most common Bromeliads grown. It is a durable house plant because this bromeliad can often withstand several periods of neglect."

It´s rare, but we have some examples in Portugal.

A good life (with plant's) for everyone
