Wishing Star

Every night before he went to sleep
He looks out the window for the brightest star
“Wishing star…wishing star…” he said softly
“I am wishing for two parents together.”

My precious young child
Three years old and full of sorrows
I drew his body closer to mine
And feel my tears washing on his face.

Your wish, however simple, can’t be grant it
For your parents are now apart
Two lives, two houses, two different towns
Your life…divided between north and south

Every night my boy looks for the brightest star
He wishes for no toys, nothing much
Just for two parents in one house
I held his body, stroke his cheeks
You, sissy, brother and I, are family
We will play and laugh every day
For that’s all I wish from the wishing star every night!

Beautiful!

I will admit this - I am so thankful that prayer has left our home. It's was gut wrenching for me to not be able to fulfill my kids wish in that department.

Your poems timing is eriely appropriate.....if you have time, take a look at my blog!

Again - it's beautiful.

Wonderful poem! I can remember feeling the same way as that child.

very beautiful poem, and you chose a perfect picture to match. i hope JD gets to share your prayer soon as well, of seeing your togetherness as already one happy family.

Ratty,

It was a terrible time of our lives.

Betchai,

He learns very fast to accept.. :-(

Looking out the windows I am wishing the rain will stop very soon. But seems like it will continue for more hours and I have to call off my hiking trip today.

Your flower is as beautiful as the poem.

Nature souls the soul with whatever weather she offers. SOme place complain they receive too much or too little of something. As you evolve to accept and adapt to whatever comes, you rediscover inner joy that never left you. Thanks for your inspiring words.

my oldest daughter had that wish for a long time & still does on occasion even though i have been remarried and he's had two girlfriends since our divorce. kids can never help wishing for their parents to be together again. i used to tell my girls that they, their brother and i are family and no matter where we are that's home (since they were sad we had to move out of the house we owned).

rainfield,

Sorry about your hiking trip got cancel..

Liara Covert,

Thank you for your comment!

Ciara,

I think you are right! Children will still, on occasion, want their parents together.

Lovely, sad images. It is so difficult to explain why we do, what we do to our children. Beautiful work.
