Yellow Wild Flower
I have a narrow backyard, and by the fence there usually is just bare dirt since two pine trees seem to take all the sun. There are also other bushes that make that corner looks like a jungle.
Living here since summer 2002, I have very little interest in going back there because the only thing that grows is a dandelion here and a dandelion there.
This summer though, is a blessing! After discovered the wild thistle, I am keeping my eyes peel to see what else is growing. The thistle had come and gone! In its place, I find this one remarkable plant! Just one incredible and wonderful yellow flower! Can you imagine my joy?
I don't think winning a lottery could make me this happy, though it may take care of my financial burden, or buy me a decent camera.
Tell Me My Name

This flower grows overnight, like magic! The body looks a bit like the thistle body with fewer spikes on it! Isn't it beautiful? The colors on this flower stop my heart beat for a second. The outer layer of petals has pinkish and brown colors on them.
Open Up

Since this flower grows in my yard, I was able to follow its many stages of blooming! Believe me, my children think that I'm obsessed, and a bit crazy with my hobby.
Growing

If I could preserve the beauty of this flower to look at all the time, I would! I missed a couple of days watching this flower, and didn't get a chance to see its full bloom, or what it was like!
Silky Hair

By the time I see it, this is what was left! Silky, hairy fuzz! However, there are three other buds on this one plant. Hopefully, I will get a chance to follow its growth.
White Hair

When this fuzz ball is in the shade, it gives a feel of puppy's soft hair! It doesn't have that silky or sparky look to it. I think it is just as beautiful as the flower.
Fuzz Ball

This is a ball of fuzz, which still is a beautiful thing in my book! My yard is turning into a jungle and I am glad it becoming one!
Since this corner of my yard is always very busy with many different birds, I have to say the birds deserved all the credit for planning and growing these wild flowers in this space. I could not find any other reasons why such beautiful flowers or weeds keep popping up like this.

i can feel your happiness Icy, I too jump for joy when I see something I do not expect when I wander around, but what is great with this one is that it is right on your backyard! And I love your photos, very interesting, even when the wildflower is gone it left a fuzzy ball reminding us of the beauty it has. you have captured the stages so well.
ReplyDeleteIcy, your images of your wild flower are gorgeous! The different stages are interesting. On the first photo I like the reddish stripes on the back of the petals and the dark squiggly shapes in the center. Also the sparkling fuzz ball looks pretty. Delightful post!
ReplyDeleteI walk around my garden to see what's come up as well. I'm an avid gardener, so new flowers fill me with happiness and pride.
ReplyDeleteI stop to sniff them too!
Your flower looks like a weird kind of dandelion to me, but the stem does look like a wild thistle.
How wonderful to have a backyard with all of these beautiful flowers. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAre you saying summer? Then spring is over. You are feeling "Malaysia" now. I think there must be many more flowers to come from your little jungle in this weather.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice crazy day..
The birds gave you a wonderful gift. The yellow flower is very attractive. The dark parts enhance the yellow very well. The fuzzball is also very nice. Your last picture of it is excellent.
ReplyDeleteI think they just showed up to pose for that wonderful camera of yours. :)

Jo--I'm telling you, it's the birds :-)
Rainfield--I don't know what to say when it comes to your comments :-(
Ratty--Thank you!
Michele--My camera is just a pocket camera, nothing fancy!
Great progression shots!
ReplyDeleteI love flowers and wild flowers are just the best.
Woah! What a wonderful keen eye you have! I would love to see how the yellow petals turn to white and furry indeed! But then its the simple things in life that makes us more joyous than winning the lottery sometimes... ha!
ReplyDeleteWow, these flowers are absolutetly amazing and I feel just as you in relation to seeing such wonderful things filled with love. :) Always a pleasure to stop by. I have an advertising picture button, if you'd like that instead. Have just added you to my blogroll. :) It's good to express yourself through language, as in a way it makes you understand more of why you are going through that experience, and you feel lighter and wiser for it. :) (In relation to your previous post, the answer you left on my blog)
ReplyDeleteP.S-Thank you for thinking of me, and adding me to your blogroll. :) Hope your having a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteWow, did you find out what it's called? I learn so many things through blogging. One most special to me is learning the names of flowers new or common to my sight.
ReplyDeleteNope, sorry, it's not the same flower. I'll try to add a pic of mine closed up. What part of the world are you in? I don't recognize your flower.
ReplyDeleteDaisy--Oh yes, just a small pleasure but it meant so much.
ReplyDeleteAna--I never thought weeds can produce such beautiful flowers, but I was wrong after looking at them through the camera.
Thanks for adding me!
Pacey--Judging from the body of this flower, I think it's belonging to the thistle family.
Ratty--Thank you for the link!
Sharkbytes--I don't think they are the same flowers either.
Well, I can't STAND a mystery flower! Especially when it's so close to me. Can you tell me more about the height of the overall plant (you imply tall), and the size of each bloom? I can see from your pics that there are multiple buds on each stem.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a sow thistle. Not a very nice name... sorry. Are the leaves prickly (but not the whole plant like a true thistle)?
Sharkbytes,
ReplyDeleteThe plant stood about 4 feet tall, the leaves were a bit prickly, and the flower was twice the size of the white wild daisy.
Sadly, I didn't get to see its full bloomed, and the the plant was cut along with the grass by a neighbor kid!
I'm pretty sure it's another type thistles because of its body!
The birds bring so much life to my garden too. And that's really nature in harmony.
ReplyDeleteKeats The Sunshine Girl,
ReplyDeleteThere is no other explanation for what's growing when I didn't have anything to do with it..It's the birds! :-)
I read about it some days ago in another blog and the main things that you mention here are very similar
