His Name is The Great Black Wasp
These pictures of the Great Black Wasp were taken about a month and a half ago, and I knew his name through Ratty at The Everyday Adventure!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Ratty's post on this critter! It came to me from nowhere, perching on this clover behind me while I was chasing the bees for pictures.
Perching on The Top
He just sat there without any movement, even when I close in with my point and shoot zoom. His black body stood out from the greenery around him. It was a perfect opportunity for me to capture!
Back View
He moved a little, as if to tell me there were other parts of him that needed to be photographed. I was not sure what kind of bee or wasp he was, so I was still very cautious.
Staring Contest
Taking advantage of this great black wasp, I moved to the front of his face and found his big eyes staring back at me. He posed no threat and he didn't care about flying away.
Stuck on Clover
I went away to continue my chase with the bees, and when I returned, the great black wasp was still there on this one clover. So here I went again, snapping more pictures of him.
Busy With My Honey
This was my last shot of the great black wasp! I found him in my yard, around my vegetables garden. My adventures often are around my home, but if you would like to see more everyday adventure, visit Ratty's blog!

Wow, it does look like he posed for you. I would not want to be stung by that guy.

Once I read about your comment, I knew you are going to put it up.
ReplyDeleteYou see, you have made it first. I am late by 2 hours.
lol.
now, i know what rainfield meant by coincidence. i think its more you all got eyes for beauty and attune to your surroundings!
ReplyDeletewell, the more the merrier!Icy, the pictures are so clear, i can see the blue in the wings...
black is back in vogue!!!!
You got some great pictures of your wasp, much better than mine. You got just about every possible angle. This is the best look at one of these wasps I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I think three of you (you, rainfield and ratty)must involved in the secret conspiracy! Same bug, 3 different places within few days! :D
ReplyDeleteNow I understand what rain was trying to tell "a coincidence". And I thought that our wasps here looks like just rain's wasp, on second thought it just looks like this one. Hhmm...
ReplyDeleteOh wow, good capture, Icy. Sometimes, some bugs are so elusive, but on other days they appear as if they enjoy the limelight! hahaha. My post last Friday on that orange (Bold Bugs), it did the same thing... It was so elusive on other days (flying before I got close) BUT on that day, it just kept walking slow, I was thrilled and kept snapping! hahaha. You did a good job on this wasp -so clear! Your diva wasp!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of a black wasp before. That's a great picture of it staring at you. How nice of the bug to pose for you. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great capture Icy, you can see every little detail. He seems like he enjoys the camera :)
ReplyDeleteIcy, there is only one explanation - you are one with nature. You are such a natural at capturing creation.
ReplyDeleteLove & God bless!
Nice capture of the insect!
ReplyDeletethe dance of the wasp indeed...
ReplyDeleteI love the staring contest. That's some jet black bug!
ReplyDeleteGreat job at getting those shots! I'm glad he wasn't in the mood to sting. I stepped on a black wasp once. NOT fun, I assure you.
ReplyDeleteJen
good one..
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Icy, a very handsome wasp. The detail in your photos is excellent. Apparently we don't have those in this part of the country just lots of nasty tempered Yellow Jackets. He seems to be far more friendly than they are.

Wow, that is a very pretty black wasp. I love the elegance in his form. Great captures yet again Icy. :)
