Help For Math Online
My son is in the fifth grade, and some days, he comes home with load of homework that could take about two hours to finish. It is not one page, but at least three pages full of problems to solve. I can manage Social Studies, or Geography, or English, but when it comes to Math, I have to enlist Online math help.
I can't believe the amount of homework my son has, and I'm horrified at the problems he has to solve. I read it, re-read it, and read it out loud, but still I have no idea what or how to dissect a Fifth grader's Math problems.
Getting Online math tutoring was the best thing I did after we had a few episodes of yelling and tears. Sometimes, I can figure out the problem, but I don't know how to explain it to my son so he can understand and does it for himself.
I could not work out the problem in my head. I have to write it down to see, and work step by step to get to get my answer. I have to admit, I'm not the smartest duck in the flock.
My son is better getting Math help from someone else and he is receiving it from TutorVista.com.

Oooh, Icy, I have spent many a tear of homework with my children. Why didn't we have computers then?
Icy, isn't that fabulous? I, too, am not a math whiz. Imagine what it was like growing up with a brother, three years my junior, genius level - at least in math - GA Tech grad, etc, etc. The class I hated most, nearly 50 years ago, in nursing school, was a course called "drugs and solutions" which was a pharmacy class that involved a lot of math and dosage calculation. Back in the "old days", drugs weren't packaged unit does and we had to do a lot of calculations. I know, not a day passed, that I didn't cry and think I was going to get thrown out of school. I didn't and I think it is easier now with pharmacists doing most of the calculation!
My three boys are all math whizzes and, a benevolent Being, did not require me to ever help them. They did it all without me. Shawn is an electrical engineer and the other two follow in his footsteps.
How wonderful that there is this math tutoring for kids these days...it certainly fosters family peace!
oh same as sis in law, 5th grade!
Merci beaucoup... I will check into this. ;-0
