The Problem With Teeth
Out of three children, my youngest may require special care for his teeth. He has two teeth on the upper top that grow out of order, and already mention that he wants braces to straighten them out.
For some reasons, JoJo seems to be conscious about this subject more than the other two children were at this age. Their teeth are not perfect, but they are fine with them. JoJo's teeth, however, visibly are out of line.
Children nowadays are more attentive to their physical appearances than ever before. All of those brand names commercials have really sunk into their minds about the shoes, and the clothes they wear. They talk about diet, exercise and yellow/crooked teeth.
I don't remember growing up hearing or talking about these issues at all from anyone. We were more into getting out together to play games.
Maybe in a few years, I can afford to get my son's teeth straighten out! For now, we will do what we can to keep them from pushing up too much that he won't smile anymore.

I'm lucky with the oldest - her teeth are spaced and straight!
The youngest, well the falling on a railroad tie at 18 mos and damaging her 3 bottom (center) didn't do them any good. Hoping all that will require is some bonding in the future.
Just try to get him to smile - I understand, it's no easy task.
I think you'll get him to smile, regardless. I'll tell you, I finally found the most wonderful dentist, just three years ago. He and his wife are so incredible, I wrote a review on Yelp about them. My 25-year-old says that, no matter where he might move in the state, he'll still come back to Dr. Quach.
When your children bond with a dentist or health care professional it is a real plus, as Rnsane mentions. Good luck with that, Icy.
Perhaps you could contact their office and see if they could recommend an office nearer to your location.
I also had braces before back in college.
