Scenic Sunday--The Manistee

While we were on the island, we often sat in our car and watched the freight go by! It was amazing to see such a big and heavy piece of metal sailed smoothly on the surface of water. Yet, if I got thrown in the water for any reason, I'll be at the bottom of the river in no time at all.

Sailing on By

We watched this ship came from the Ambassador Bridge direction, and waited for it to slowly pass by us. It was a thrill to see it so close.

Heading Out

We got out of the car to take pictures as the freight went by, and found the name of this freight on the side toward the front.

Majestic Looking

The front of this freight looks so heavy! We saw two workers on the side and waved to them. Sometimes, if the sailors see us, they would toot their horn to say hello also.

  1. During the start of a new year, the ships and ferries always toot, toot, and toot for a few minutes over here.

The sailors may not need to see me.

  2. It is cool to see the big ships pass by so close. And neat that that toot to you on shore. Great shots.

  3. i haven't seen a ship cruise into the river yet, Icy. maybe because I have not lived close to a huge river. The pictures look peaceful, it's great for the sailors to toot their horn and say hello to the onlookers.

  4. That is an awesome sight to see. I love going down to the bay on standing on the Golden Gate Bridge and just watching the ships come in. Great photos, Icy.

  5. This takes me back to when I lived near the Detroit River. I used to like to watch these ships go by too. I liked watching to see where they were from. It's amazing how far away some of those ships came from.

My verification word this time was ratti. That's cool.

  6. Sorry you've had a spam attack. It's funny that we call it spam. We had to eat that as children and hated the salty meat in a can. :-)

  9. Beautiful photos. I love to watch the big ships and miss it now that we are further from the coast. The best was to see them on the Columbia river.

  10. Well, that's interesting. I didn't know there was a ship named for Manistee. That's the next big town north from me.
